Foxgate was founded by Michael D. Carroll, II JD in partnership with Jay D. Fields, CEO of The Fields Companies. Foxgate’s partnership with The Fields Companies provides capital strength at the GP level, national platform, a breadth of management and administrative experience, in addition to industry respect by as its managing partners, which have over 25+ years of real estate investment and transactional experience.
Michael Carroll was Founder and Managing Partner of Foxgate Capital, the real estate private equity investment firm added to The Fields Companies portfolio in 2020, where he oversaw all aspects of the firm along with the day-to-day operations for advancing opportunities in the real estate sector. Prior to establishing Foxgate, Michael served as President and General Counsel at Riverway Properties and founded Riverway Capital Partners, an investment acquisition arm of the Riverway Companies. In addition to his law degree, he was on track to graduate from the Executive MBA program at the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business in 2022.

Jay Fields is Chief Executive Officer of The Fields Companies and President & Chief Operating Officer of JD Fields & Company, Inc. Since becoming COO in 2018, Jay has worked to diversify JD Fields into manufacturing and other joint business ventures, including acquiring Alameda Pipe & Fab, and the new JDF HDM spiral weld mill in Sinton, Texas. Under his leadership, The Fields Companies has also added foundation equipment supplier JDF Equipment, Bear Dean Capital – an investment company that deals in real estate, hospitality, and film production – and the private equity firm Foxgate Captial to its business portfolio.
Terence Cooper is the Director of Investments for Foxgate Capital, where he oversees the firm’s investments process. Prior to joining Foxgate Capital, Terence led a four-person team at Cushman & Wakefield that advised corporate clients and investors in a range of corporate occupier alternatives, development assignments, and asset dispositions. Previously, he was the Director of Investments at Campus Apartments where he was responsible for evaluating the firm’s acquisition and development opportunities in college markets. Terence earned his MBA in real estate and B.S. in finance and accounting from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas School of Law. He is a Certified Public Accountant, a licensed attorney, LEED Green Associate, and a Texas licensed real estate salesperson.
Eric Houston serves as the chief development officer for Foxgate Capital. He is a proven real estate and finance professional who has served in those industries for over 25 years. Houston boasts specific acumen in mortgage dealings – having owned his own mortgage company for 15 years – and has executed a number of high-profile investment deals. Most recently, he served in a leadership role in the land acquisition, construction and sale of successful venture Eric & Jay’s RV Resort. In the role of chief development officer for Foxgate, Houston focuses on raising capital for a number of projects currently in various stages of development and seeks to procure new project opportunities that may be investable for the firm.
